UTA Maternal Health Research Center

UTA Maternal Health Research Center

Our center is a collaborative research enterprise dedicated to applying participatory systems approaches to inform community-driven solutions that can effectively respond to complex reproductive health issues among various populations. Our work focuses on integrating participatory group model building and complex systems science approaches to generate community-driven solutions that can respond to complex maternal and reproductive health issues, such as cardiovascular severe maternal morbidity. By the end of this project, we will develop an interactive policy analysis simulator that helps users assess the plausible effects of interventions on cardiovascular severe maternal morbidity.

Center Goals

The UTA Maternal Health Research Center strives to reduce adverse maternal health outcomes in North Texas through the pursuit of the following goals:

  • Conduct participatory system dynamics group model building workshops with community-based stakeholders
  • Complete a community-wide survey focused on cardiovascular severe maternal morbidity
  • Utilize secondary intervention data related to cardiovascular severe maternal morbidity
  • Implement, calibrate, and validate a system dynamics simulation model of the complex, interrelated forces that drive cardiovascular severe maternal morbidity
  • Explore preventive solutions with community stakeholders by engaging in learning labs
  • Develop a web-based policy simulator and deliver community-based trainings
  • Provide mentorship and training to create a pipeline of early career investigators who are trained in interdisciplinary, community-engaged maternal health disparities research.
