Maternal Mental Health-Research Training Center

The Maternal Mental Health Research Training Center (MMH-RTC) is a federally funded research award with the Human Services and Resources Administration (HRSA) under the Maternal Health Research Collaborative (MHRC) for Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). The overarching goal of this grant initiative is to build research capacity at Mercy University, a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Minority Serving Institution (MSI) through a joint collaboration between the graduate Occupational Therapy (School of Health and Natural Sciences) and Psychology (School of Social and Behavioral Sciences) programs.

Center Goals

  • Build skills in foundational research methods in maternal health and health disparities research through attendance at research seminars and conferences.

  • Increase capacity in conducting research on underrepresented Hispanic mothers by active engagement in empirical research, dissemination in peer reviewed journals, and preparation of one grant proposal for external funding.

  • Translate research findings into practice via presentations and development of community-based solutions.
